After Back To Back Region Losses, Moberly Takes It Out On State Fair
Moberly, MO – The Greyhounds get a much needed win over Region foe State Fair CC, a team they have beaten 18 straight times. The last time a Roadrunner team has beaten the Hounds was in the Region Championship game back in March 2014. That season, State Fair qualified for the National Tournament.
Last season, State Fair was actually given a forfeit win over Moberly, but in games actually determined on the hardwood, Moberly has dominated. Over that span Moberly has won by an average score of 89.7 to 67.6.
That trend continued last night as the Hounds put together a strong first half, using a 15 to 0 run on take full command heading into their Fitzsimmons-John Arena locker room up 47-26. Moberly shot 66% during that first twenty minutes.
The hot shooting continued in the second period (47%), although not as sizzling as in the first (66%), as the Greyhounds bested SF by 15 more in that final period to flatten the Roadrunners, again, 92-56. Wiley Coyote should take notes.
MACC improves to 17-6 overall, and 4-3 in region play. State Fair slides to 12-10 and 1-6, losers of six in a row.
Moberly finished with four in double digits, led by Sincere Parker who splashed home a game high 29 points. Parker was 6-9 from behind the half moon. Michael Thomas, normally a starter, come off the bench in this one to put in 16 on 7 of 11 shooting, two of two on his long tosses. Tyren Moore and Jimmy Bell each contributed 10, Bell’s game included 9 rebounds.
The Hounds committed 13 turnovers but forced the ‘Runners into 22, of which MACC turned into 34 points. Moberly also controlled the boards finishing with a plus 11 advantage.
State Fair was led by Kingsley Ijeoma with 14, their lone player in double figures.
The Hounds scored their highest point total in 2022, but when asked about it HC Patrick Smith had this reply,”I thought are defense was really good tonight. We did a really good job staying solid, aggressive, and disruptive. Scoring 34 points off turnovers is a lot of points,” he added.
Moberly tries to keep up mighty MO when they travel to West Plains Monday for a make-up game. State Fair hosts West Plains on Saturday.
