Volunteers Take Care of Business In Battle of Top 20 Teams
(Friday, November 12)
Vincennes, IN – After two wins in Missouri to start the season, #2 John A. Logan College (IL) jumped over to Indiana to play in the Vincennes McDonald’s Classic Friday and Saturday. Taking on #18 Northeast Mississippi CC, Logan, who led by ten at half, stretched the margin to twenty a couple of times before settling for a 82-67 triumph.
Now 3-0, the Vols get together with East Mississippi CC on Saturday. Northeast falls to 3-1 and will challenge the host Trailblazers following the Logan/East MS contest Saturday afternoon.
In a unique looking box score, Logan had five in double figures. And that would be the starting five. No one else scored a single point.
Leading the Vols attack was Sean West with 20 points, 18 coming after the break. Right behind West were Tae’ Williams and Cam Alford scoring 19 and 18 respectively. Cobie Barnes had 13 and twelve by Sarion McGee rounded out the scoring. McGee and Williams added game high 9 rebounds each.
Running down the stats, it would appear this was a triple overtime thriller as things were very evenly matched. Except….for free throws. That’s were Logan was able to secure the win, going 27-29 (93.1%), compared to the Tigers’ 8-9.
Northeast (3-1), one of the better 3 point shooting teams in the nation so far, averaging 11 makes and almost 40% accuracy, went a measly 3-20. After a slow start, Kylan Blackmon netted 16 for team high honors, all but two of those coming in the 2nd half. Blackmon had entered the game as the nation’s 14th best in ppg at 23.3.
