Top Seed John A. Logan First Team To One Hundred
March 21, 2023 (Hutchinson, KS) – In the first game of the second round of the NJCAA Men’s DI National Tournament, #1 Seed used 50% first half shooting and 61% in the second half to dispatch of #16 seed Monroe College, 105-85. It was the first game of the tourney with a team breaching the century mark.
Logan is the first team to advance to the quarterfinals The Vols will play the winner of the #8 seed Midland College vs. #9 seed Chipola College game on Thursday at Noon.
Balanced scoring has been the key to Logan’s success all season and today was no exception. The Volunteers had seven in double figures led by Quimari Peterson’s 19 to go along with 7 rebounds and a pass happy 10 dimes. Isaiah Stafford and KJ Debrick both knocked in 15, James Dent 14, a dozen by Sean Smith, 11 for Curt Lewis, and Elliot Lowndes tallied ten.
For Monroe (29-5), Melvin Council, Jr popped for a game high 23, followed by Keith Warren, Jr with 21. Zaire Wells dropped in 16. Council contributed 7 boards and team high 9 apples as well.
Logan led 50-39 at half, taking their biggest lead at 22 with :25 left in the game. Monroe never led.
