Daytona State Rains Threes To Win Opener Over Jones College
NJCAA 2026 Game 1 is final: #17 Daytona State (FL) advances to take on #1 seed Howard College with a 103-74 victory over #16 Jones College (MS).
Down 65-48 at the 11:15 mark of the 2nd half, Jones (24-10] went on a mini run of 13-4 to narrow the gap to 69-61 three minutes later.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, there 3rd consecutive trip to Hutch ends as Daytona (27-7) exploded from that point, outscoring Jones 34-13 in the final 8 minutes to make the 29 point differential.
For the game, the Falcons went 17-35 for 49% from behind the arc. Daytona put up a 59 point second half to stretch a 44-33 point halftime into the final margin. The Bobcats were also out rebounded 51-38 in the loss.
Four double digit performers powered the Falcons, led by Adrian Shackleton with 24 points. Noah Mendy’s 29 point, 15 rebound, and 6 assists was quite the spectacle. C.J. Hall added 15 and Tyrese Lacey had 6 dimes to go with his 13 points.
For Jones, Bob Dickson had 16 to lead 4 Bobcats in double figures. He was followed by Braylon Barnes with, 14, Dylan Rowe with 12, while Keron Jackson, Jr. knocked in 12. Barnes added 10 boards to finish with a double dipper.
Daytona State College has a date with #1 Howard at Noon Monday, March 23.
