Chipola Chops Their Way To Hutch

Another District Dubs a Champion. In the always rough and tough, bump and grind South Atlantic District (Region 8), it was #4 Chipola College Indians taking home the Championship, 76-69, over the #3 seed Daytona State Falcons, who finish at 26-7.

Chipola, also 26-7, gets the automatic berth in the National Tournament at Hutch, while Daytona State, and several others from the FCSAA’s State Tournament await their fate for a possible At-Large bid.

The Indians held the lead for most of the game, and never trailed in the first 20 minutes.

Chipola took it’s larges lead of 18, 33-15, with just over 5 minutes to play in the first stanza.

Daytona flexed their biceps as the first half closed, pulling to within 37-26 at the break. The Falcons continued the comeback and took their first lead of 46-45 at the 13 minute mark of the second half.

From that point, there were seven more lead changes before the Indians took the lead for good at 63-60 with 4 and change remaining. It was a Demarco Middleton 3 pointer which helped boost Chipola to lead out to victory.

Chipola completely dominated the glass 53-36 and connected on 6/11 (55%) from three point land compared to the Falcons’ 8/37 (22%). Those two stats were glaring factors for the Indians overall success in the win at Raider Arena.
