Walters State Returns To The Big Dance
The Senators in Washington D.C. may not agree on much, but one thing is sure….the Senators from Walters State CC in Tennessee all agree they are Kings of Region 7, and will be road tripping to Hutch for the 2026 Men’s D1 National Tournament.
After trailing at intermission, 38-31, Walters State outscored the Chargers 37-27 to punch their Natty ticket. Walters State (30-1) took their first lead in the second half with about 12 minutes to play, 47-46, but a 5-0 Columbia State run put the Chargers back up by four at the midway point of the frame.
The Senators took the lead for good with just under 9 minutes to play and stiff-armed away a last ditch upset effort from Columbia State.
The victory earns them the Region 7/Appalachian District Title, and auto berth at Hutch. It’s the 2nd time in three seasons Walters State will carry the Region 7 championship banner to Hutchinson, making their 10th overall appearance in the National Tournament.
The National Championship will run from March 20 thru March 28 at the Sports Arena at Hutchinson CC, in Hutchinson, KS. Hutch has been the home of the tournament since 1949.
