Odessa Joins Midland In Quarterfinals With Narrow Victory Over Southeastern
March 22, 2023 (Hutchinson, KS) – In the next to last second round game, the seventh quarter-finalist would be determined. #14 seed Southeastern CC and #3 Odessa College would both try and fill that spot. Southeastern had won their first round game over Snead State on Tuesday, 75-49.
Nine points separated the teams at the intermission, with Odessa up 37-26. The Wranglers shot 53% while SCC struggled at 37%. Southeastern’s shooting percentage didn’t improve, although Odessa’s slumped, but when the horn sounded after 40 minutes, the Wranglers came away 62-56 winners.
Odessa will meet the winner of #6 seed Indian Hills CC and the 11th seed Ranger College on Thursday at 8:00.
Southeastern trailed by 13 early in the second but was able to creep back into it ever slow slowly. However, the Blackhawks never led and the game had only two ties.
Not a single Odessa player finished in double figures. Thirteen logged minutes, 11 scored. Tied for team lead with 8 were Dian Wright-Forde, Kiree Huie, and Darrell Armstrong, Jr. Brandon Maclin and Marcus Banks had team high 5 rebounds
Southeastern was led by the combo of Jaylen Searles and Davion Bailey, each posting 14. Searles added 8 rebounds. Deng Deang finished with 12 plus 5 boards.
Odessa was plus 8 on the glass, but committed 17 turnovers, 13 coming in the 2nd half when the Hawks made their comeback.
Southeastern’s season ends at 26-9. Odessa gets their 30th win to go with 3 losses.
