#2 Seed Dodge City Roars Back To Claim Third Quarterfinal Slot
Hutchinson, KS – #2 Seed Dodge City CC erased a nine point half time deficit with a 51-23 second half outburst, sending them to a convincing 82-65 victory over Snow College (UT).
That win puts the Conquistadors into the quarterfinals Thursday, March 17, versus the winner of the #7 Indian Hills/#10 Northwest Florida contest which followed this game.
Snow took control early, but really didn’t get much separation. The Badgers scored the last 8 of the first half to head into the locker room on top 42-31, feeling pretty good about the way things closed in the first half.
After the intermission, it didn’t take long for the Conquistadors to take the lead. Just as Snow went on a run to close out the first twenty minutes of the game, Dodge City began the second portion in similar fashion.
About five and a half minutes into the second period, Dodge looked up to the overhead scoreboard and saw their team had captured the lead 45-42 at the bottom of 13-0 run. Snow did not score in the first 6 minutes of the last half.
The Conqs, upping their record to 30-4, didn’t stop there. With the score level at 50, Dodge put together another big run, this time 14-1 to put the game out of reach. 64-51.
Dodge City had five players do double digits. Themus Fulks had game high 24. BJ Freeman was good for 13, and Kerwin Prince splashed home 11 on 5 of 6 FGs along with 7 rebounds. Omour Koureissi and Kalen Williams each added ten. Nick Pringle socred seven but controlled the boards with game high 12.
Snow (26-8) got 19 from Wyatt Lowell and 15 courtesy of Hagen Wright. Drake Allen dropped in 11. Clayton Southwick had team high 8 rebounds, an area completely dominated by the Conquistadors, 38-28.
Dodge City became the eleventh straight higher seed to record a victory in this years tourney. All winners at this juncture have been wearing white.
