Kilgore Stumbles At Home In Overtime To Bossier Parish
(January 29, 2022) Kilgore, TX – Bossier Parish CC handed #2 Kilgore College their first home loss of the year, upstaging the Rangers 109-101 in overtime at Masters Gym. The Rangers were 11-0 in the friendly confines entering the contest.
The Cavaliers built a nine point lead in the first half, and to a 42-39 advantage to the half. Kilgore equaled that three point margin in the second period (48-45) to put the extra minutes on the clock. In the OT, the Cavs rang up 22 to KC’s 14 to secure the win.
It was an uphill battle most of the night for the Rangers, who were down 11 at one time in period two. A 13-2 dash capped by a Dantwan Grimes trey tilted the score in their favor with 5:22 left in regulation. It was KC’s first lead since the 12:24 mark in the first half.
After that, the game saw three more ties and eight lead changes. It was Da’Sean Nelson’s three pointer which tied it at 87 with 16 seconds left to force the overtime.
The Rangers never led again, however, as BP’s Jaeden Marshall’s lay-in 16 seconds into the extra period gave the Cavs the lead for good.
The Rangers were powered by Dantwan Grimes with 30 points. DaVeon Thomas tallied 21, Da’Sean Nelson doubled up with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Paul Otieno tossed in 15 points to go along with 9 boards, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Cavaliers coup.
With the win, Bossier Parish goes to 13-8, 7-5. The Cavaliers got a game high 28 points plus 6 rebounds and 3 assists from Marshall. Eleven of his points were scored in OT. In support of Marshall, the Cavs received 16 from Derick Hamilton (all after the break), a 15 point 7 rebound effort by Adrian Walker, and 13 points each from Eric McKinght and Kendrick Delahoussaye, who added 5 helpers.
Kilgore, playing its third game of the week, drops to 20-2 overall and 10-2 in the conference. The Rangers have now lost two of their last five. KC outrebounded BPCC by 6, but 22 turnovers (to BP’s 12) took its toll.
