Collin College Gets Back On Track With Road Triumph at Grayson

Denison, TX – Grayson had won nine in a row since back to back losses to then #2 ranked Kilgore. That is until Collin College came calling. Collin was coming off their first loss of the season, a 13 point home loss to Weatherford Saturday. Collin is currently ranked 10th in latest NJCAA poll (#6 at the time of this game).

Taking a five point lead to the break, the Cougars (15-1/2-1) were able to hold off the home team inside Viking Gymnasium, 80-74, ending their win streak. Grayson is now 14 and 4, 1 & 1 in the NTJCAC.

Collin used double digit scoring from four to gain the W. Isaiah Washington was top cat for the Cougs, pouring in 19, adding 5 boards and 5 helpers. John Achebe twinned the Viks on 15 points and 10 boards, barely missing a trip-dub with 8 boards. Jay Wilson, on 7-10 shooting, burned Grayson for 15 points, while Alex Stoimenov added ten. Washington, Wilson and Stoimenov’s production came off the bench.

DJ Thomas, the nations 2nd leading score at 29.1, topped the Vikings score sheet with 28. Joshua Robinson was next doubling with 18 pts. and 14 caroms. Tyrone Williams, who’s right behind DJ at 3rd in the nation in ppg (26.3), was held to 12 on 4-12 FG attempts, accompanying his 8 rebounds. Aseem Luckey only scored two, but grabbed 11 boards. Grayson out rebounded Collin to the tune of 54-39, but apparently that wasn’t enough.

Grayson gets a quick turnaround to get back in the win column with a Wednesday road trip to play Southwestern Christian.
