IRSC Pioneers Punch Their Ticket To The National Tournament

Fort Pierce, Florida – Linton Brown was announced as the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) Region 8 Player of the Year. “This is an unbelievable honor, to be named the top junior college player in the state of Florida is a great accomplishment”, stated Indian River State College (IRSC) Men’s Basketball Head Coach Charlie Wilson. Brown is only the second player to receive this honor from IRSC.
The Sophomore guard helped lead #17 Indian River State College (IRSC) Men’s Basketball Team to a 17-3 record back-to-back Southern Conference Championship, an appearance in the FCSAA Region 8 championship game, and an at large bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association tournament held in Hutchinson, Kansas. He is averaging 18.4 points per game while shooting 53% from the field and 52% from three-point range. Brown is also averaging 5.2 rebounds per game to go along with 1.5 assists. He has scored over 30 points three times this season with a career high 33 points against Palm Beach State College. Other awards Brown has received this year include Southern Conference Player of the Year, FCSAA All-State, and he was also selected to the FCSAA All-Tournament Team.
UPDATE: The Pioneers have received the no. 14 seed at next weeks National Tournament, which runs April 19-24 at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, KS. IRSC will take on North Central District Champion Dawson CC (MT) (22-2) Tuesday, April 20 at 10:00 AM CDT. Uniquely, both Dawson and Indian River State are making their first appearances at Hutch. The winner gets a shot at #3 seed College of Southern Idaho (21-3), the Rocky Mountain District Champ, on Wednesday at 6:00.
