Wranglers receive at-large bid and No. 7 seed at National Tournament
Odessa College has received an invitation to participate in the NJCAA national tournament as an at-large selection. The tournament will run, April 19-24, at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, KS.
The Wraglers, ranked #3 in the final regular season poll, will enter the championsip as the No. 7 seed and has a first round bye.
OC won’t play until Tuesday, April 20 at 8:30 CDT, and will take on the winner of the 10 seed Coffeyville CC/ 23 seed Southwest Tennessee CC game, which is being played Monday at 4:30.
Odessa, who were co-champions of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference with South Plains in the regular season, lost in the semifinals of the Southwest District West Division (WJCAC postseason) to Western Texas College 96-92.
Eight at-large teams are selected to join the 16 District Champions in the 24 team single elimination tournament. Only two of the at-large teams received top seeds and first round byes, rival South Plains College, the no. 5 seed, is the other.
The Tournament tips off Monday, April 19 at 10:00 AM CDT. All 23 games of the tournament are viewable on NJCAATV (for a small fee) at http://njcaa.org/network. The Championship game is set for Saturday, April 24 at 6:00.
There are five Texas teams who made the cut and will be competing for the 2021 National Championship. Ranger College, who won the Southwest District title and automatic bid, is the 11 seed. Mid-South Champion Kilgore is the 17 seed, while Trinity Valley CC made the field as an at-large and secured the no. 9 seed.
