LEVELLAND, TX — The 24-team field is set for the NJCAA Men’s Basketball National Tournament April 19-24 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in Hutchinson, Kansas, with the Texans earning one of eight at-large bids and a No. 5 national seed.
The Texans secured a first-round bye and will match up against the winner of No. 12 Salt Lake and No. 21 South Georgia State at 2 p.m. on April 21.
South Plains will look for another historic run in Hutch, winning national titles in 2008, 2012, and 2018, all under Hall of Fame coach Steve Green. Green will make his 11th appearance at the national tournament as he looks to become the first coach in NJCAA history to win four Div. I men’s basketball national championships.
The Texans’ resume was one of the country’s best, amassing a 17-2 record, a 12-1 record in league play, and were co-champions of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference. South Plains is averaging just over 83 points per game this season, with opponents shooting just 35.8 percent from the field against the South Plains defense, the second-best defensive mark in the NJCAA to date.
The entire tournament will be livestreamed via the NJCAA Network (for a small fee) http://njcaa.org/network.
