Shawnee CC Shocks John A. Logan, The Newly Anointed #2
Ullin, IL – Wednesday, Shawnee CC pulled off a convincing home victory over newly ranked #2 John A. Logan, upsetting the Volunteers 92-75.
Logan trailed by 14 in the first half before getting even at 33 heading into the locker room. Shawnee busted loose with the game knotted at 51, outpointing the Vols 41-25 to the buzzer. The loss ended Logan’s ten game win streak, and sends them back to Carterville with their second loss in 18 games.
Logan is still atop the Great River Athletic Conference at 6-1. Lake Land College and Southwestern Illinois College currently tied for second at 4-1, both teams with two games in hand.
Shawnee ups their record to 10-5, 3-3 in the GRAC. The Saints had three players in double digits. Adrian Cohen put in a game high 26 on 10-18 shooting (4 of 6 from distance) plus 2 FTs. Tedrick Washington pulled a double dip on the Vols, netting 24 (7-10) accompanied by 11 boards. Glenn Valentine Jr. went 6-9 from the field and finished with 14 points and 6 dishes.
For the game Shawnee hit 56.3% on FGs (63% on threes) to Logan’s 47/33%. The Saints also out-rebounded Logan 36-28.
Cam Alford and Sean East topped the Volunteers with 18 points each. Cobie Barnes added 14. Tae’ Williams and Barnes both had 5 rebounds for JALC.
Logan has to wait until Monday the 24th to get back on the court when they head to Southwestern Illinois College (15-1,4-1) in Belleville. SWIC has won five consecutive. The Blue Storm defeated Shawnee before Christmas, 74-66.
Shawnee has Lake Land College paying a visit on Saturday, January 22nd.
