Red Ravens Soar Past Southwest Tennessee
Coffeyville CC (23-3), an at-large entry from the Plains District and #10 seed, advances to the second round with an impressive 89-62 win over the #23 seed Saluqis. The Saluqis led early, but the Red Ravens led often, 34:55 of the 40 minutes to be exact.
The Ravens led 40-27 at halftime, outscored Southwest Tennessee 49-35, to win going away.
Coffeyville, shot 55% from the field overall, including 41% from behind the arc. Southwest Tennessee was held to 39% shooting, and went 8-29 from distance.
The Red Ravens were led in scoring by four players in double digits. Tylor Perry had a team high 18, followed by 16 from Love Betts, 12 by Hayden Brittingham, with Kevaughn Ellis finishing with 10. Blaise Keita led CCC grabbing nine caroms.
SWTCC, now 11-5, had three people in double figures. Jamey Sanders led the way with a double-double netting 23 points and nabbing 10 rebounds. He was followed by Brandon Mason’s 13, with Eric Johnson adding 11.
Coffeyville forced 20 turnovers in route to their first round victory, besting the Saluqis with a decisive 34-13 point spread off those miscues. The Ravens also had a decisive advantage from the charity strip going 20-30 while SW Tenn was 8-14.
Jay Herkelman’s team now plays Odessa College (20-2) on Tuesday, April 20 at 8:30. Odessa enters the tourney as an at-large selection from the Southwest District, and is the #7 seed.
