Red Ravens Lose Third In a Row
Coffeyville, KS – The defending National Champions have now equaled their loss total from last years (27-3) team, in just six games. Fast out of the gate, Coffeyville took care of Ft. Scott, Missouri State-West Plains, and NEO in expected fashion.
The game against the Golden Norse was especially impressive. Coffeyville, then #7 ranked, won going away against the preseason #16 team with a second half explosion.
Since then, things have made an about face for Coffeyville. With three consecutive losses, the Ravens are sitting at 3-3. Included in that stretch are losses to Eastern Oklahoma State,109-103 at home, in the rematch with NEO on the road, 81-73, and yesterday, their second home loss in succession, this time to DII #15 Southern Arkansas University Tech, 78-74.
The Ravens are not accustom to that kind of outcome. They haven’t lost back to back, period, since Feb. of the 2019-20 campaign, let alone at home. The last time they pulled that stunt in Nellis Hall was against KJCCC foes during the 2017-18 season. Garden City CC and Barton County College were the culprits then.
One has to return to the 2016-17 team to find back to back to back losses. Fellow Jayhawkers Allen Co., Independence CC and Dodge City CC doing the damage that year.
As for SAUT, they are no slouch. They claimed the DII Region 2 title last year and an an automatic berth in their National Tournament. But let’s face it. Nobody likes losing to a team in a lower division. And for Coffeyville, as every perennial top 25 team should…they just don’t like losing.
