Post-season Heating Up, Action In Eleven Regions On The Docket Today

Middle America – Middle America – Regions with one game inter-region District Title play-offs next week are winding down their championships. Many have finals today, some will have semis today and championship game Monday.

Some of the Districts with larger number of combatants participating, and don’t have inter-region playoffs for their champion, begin first round action today as well.

Region 1 has semifinal games lined up, while Region 18, the other half of the West District, decides their champion later today.

Region 20 will identify their champion, who will host Harcum College (Region 15/19 champ) next Saturday for the East District Championship.

District Champs receive automatic berths in the National Tournament held annually at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson, KS. This years event is the 75th Anniversary of the tournament, which had its innagural event in 1948 in Springfield, MO.

Technically (and those who know me, know how anal I am about stats, facts, figures and technicality), this is the 74th running of the historic event as some creepy virus completely shut down the 2020 championship. The Sports Arena went dark for the first time that season since it began. Hutch (the national tournament) as it’s commonly referred to, even survived through the war years

  • Region 6/Plains District First Round (5 games)
  • Region 7/Appalachian District Quarterfinals
  • Region 9/Northwest Plains District First Rounds for both North and South Divisions (5 games)
  • Region 11 Final
  • Region 23/Gulf District First Round (3 games)
  • Region 24/Central District First Round (2 games)
