No. 13 SLCC downs Southern Idaho on McGriff buzzer-beater

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (March 27, 2021) – The No. 13 ranked Salt Lake Community College men’s basketball team will head into the postseason with a rash of momentum, thanks to a thrilling buzzer-beating victory to close the regular season on ‘Sophomore Day’ Saturday.
The Bruins earned an 85-82 win over nationally-ranked #7 Southern Idaho to close the Scenic West Athletic Conference regular-season competition, downing the regular-season champs on a Quincy McGriff buzzer-beating shot. The victory sets SLCC’s overall record at 19-3 to end the regular season, with a mark of 12-3 in league play.
In a game where neither team was able to gain much ground, Jay Allen-Tovar tied the game at 82-82 with 38 seconds left. After a pair of CSI misses, the Bruins recovered for McGriff to hit his shot as time expired. McGriff had a team-high 22 points, with Marvin Price scoring 21 points. Felix Lemetti posted 15 points, while Jay Allen-Tovar scored 10 points.
SLCC’s sophomores who were honored included: James Lee, Marvin Price, Da’Vantre Vitor, Felix Lemetti, Maks Klanjscek, Jay Allen-Tovar, Samuel Keita, and Sam Hofman.
Salt Lake will now enter the upcoming Region 18 tournament as the No. 2 seed, finishing behind Southern Idaho (19-3; 13-2) in the Scenic West Athletic Conference standings.
