Midland Moves On With Strong Second Half

March 21, 2023 (Hutchinson, KS) – #8 seed Midland College gets a spot in the quarterfinals with a 69-55 conquest of #9 seed Chipola College. Midland will play #1 seed John A. Logan College (30-2) on Thursday at Noon.

Midland shot 40% to Chipola’s 34, and out rebounded the Indians 42 to 32. MCC’s biggest lead was 16, and they held the lead for just over 35 minutes of the game. There were 4 lead changes and 4 ties.

Doug Young paced the Chaparrals with 21 with 3 assists. Keonte Jones added 14 points and doubled down with game high 15 rebounds. Brison Waller put in 13. Midland’s record jumps to 28-6. Chipola finishes the season at 29-5.

The Indians got a 17 point 6 rebound performance from Jamil Safieddine. He was followed by Zach Bell with 13.

Midland had 11 assists on their 21 made FGs and outscored the Indians 34-23 after the break. Neither team shot well from distance, Chipola, normally a 36% team went 3-14 for 21.4%. Meanwhile, the Chaps put in 6-23 for 26.1%
