Kilgore Tops South Plains In Lowest Scoring Game Of Tourney

Hutchinson, KS – #3 Kilgore met up with #14 South Plains, a first round winner versus South Georgia Tech, to see who would be the 7th team to qualify for the quarterfinals. In the tournaments lowest scoring game by far, both teams struggled to put up points.

When the dust settled, Kilgore wins the defensive battle 56-48, and earns the pass for an appearance in the elite eight. The Rangers will take on the Triton/Indian River winner Thursday, March 17 at 8:00 CDT.

Kilgore hit 37% from the field for the game (35% from three point land), while South Plains went 15-55 (27%) over 40 minutes. The Texans was 33% from distance on 7 for 21.

Rebounding is crucial in all games, but especially in games with limited possessions. Kilgore dominated the glass 43 to 32, a big part of their overall success.

Leading scorer for the Rangers (31-2) was Mason Taylor with 12. Da’Sean Nelson and Tobias Roland each contributed 10. Nelson and Duane Posey led the team with 6 rebounds a piece.

Duece Turner topped South Plains (21-12) with 11, while Savion Gallion added 10. Malek Abdelgowad grabbed game high with 9 rebounds.
