Kilgore Pulls Off Upset Of Trinity Valley in Mid-South District

JACKSONVILLE, TX — For the first time since 2013, the Kilgore College Rangers are heading to Hutchinson.
KC pulled off the upset win against No. 1 seed Trinity Valley Community College, 68-67, in dramatic fashing at John Alexander Gymnasium.
The Rangers had a 3-point halftime lead, but a second half surge put the Cardinals ahead by as many as eight points.
KC rallied and tied the score up at 65-65 with 2:30 left on a hook shot by Paul Otieno.
After turnovers on both ends of the court, KC’s Da’Sean Nelson was fouled and made one-of-two free throws to put KC ahead by one, 66-65.
TVCC answered on the other end with a basket by Trevon Fuller to take the one-point lead with 1:15 left.
With 24 seconds left, Tysen Banks stole the ball from the Cardinals and Jenkins was fouled on a 3-pointer at the other end.
Jenkins made 2-of-3 free throws to put the Rangers up by a point with 10.3 seconds left.
TVCC’s Dashawn Davis put up a last-second three-point prayer at the buzzer but it was no good, making the final score 68-67.
Jenkins led KC in scoring with 18 points, named as Region 14 Tournament MVP after the conclusion of the game. Three other Rangers were in double figures with Otieno scoring 12, Dantwan Grimes with 10 and Stephan Morris with 10.
TVCC had three players in double figures with Davis scoring 14 points, Anderson Mirambeaux with 13, Jakevion Buckley with 13 and Trevon Fuller with 11.
With the win, KC will play in the NJCAA National Tournament in Hutchinson, Kan., April 29-24, at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
