Hot Shooting, Suffocating Defense Leads NW Florida To Victory

PENSACOLA, Fla. – For the second straight game No. 12 Northwest Florida State led for the entire 40 minutes in an impressive 92-60 victory over previously undefeated No. 15 Lamar State – Port Arthur on Monday.
The Raiders (5-1) shot 54.7 percent (35-61) as a team, while holding the Seahawks to just 34.4 percent (22-64) from the field. Northwest was +18 on the boards, grabbing almost 2/3’s of all missed shots, a stat LS-PA had been dominating in their previous six games.
Shammah Scott paced NWF with 17 points, while Kam Woods and Issa Muhammad scored 15 points each. Tre Clark added 10 points. Deshawndre Washington scored seven points and posted a game-high 11 rebounds and six assists.
Northwest Florida led by 20 at halftime, 47-27, and were up by as many as 36 points in the second half. The Raiders knocked down a season-high 56.3 percent (9-16) of its shot from beyond the arc.
Kanntrell Burrey and Quindarius Thomas each with 14 in the loss for Lamar State, now 6-1.
On the season, NWF ranks 24th in the nation shooting 51.7 percent through six games.
The Raiders return to Pensacola to face Southern Arkansas Tech on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
