Harcum’s Second Half Surge Dooms John A. Logan
Hutchinson, KS – #5 Seed Chipola took advantage of some cold shooting by #12 Hutchinson CC, especially in the second half, ending the Blue Dragons season. Taking a 42-33 margin into the break, the Indians out pointed Hutch 43-29 in the final twenty minutes to gain the 85-62 final score.
Hutch was 22-69 (32%) for the game, compared to the 45% that Chipola connected on (30-67). What’s worse, normally a 31% shooting team from distance, the Blue Dragons were a miserable 3-24, or 12.5%.
With three players getting dub-dubs, the Indians were monsters on the glass to the tune of 57-31. Twenty-five of their 57 boards came on the offensive end.
Chipola (29-5), moves on to the quarterfinals, the sixth team to fill in one of those eight spots. There they will meet Harcum College, a 109-91 winner over #4 Seed John A. Logan, Thursday, March 17 at 6:00 CDT.
Providing the power for Chipola were the triplet double-doublers. Achor Achor did 22 points, 16 rebounds, both game highs. Nae’qwan Tomlin finished with 18 points to go along with 11 boards, while Fazon Fields twinned for 12 of each. Kris Gardner was game high with six assists to along with ten poins.
Hutchinson (26-9) was led by Angelo Stuart who had 16, Jayden Hall with 15, and Kobe Campbell added 11.
