Coffeyville’s Tylor Perry Named Most Valuable Player

Coffeyville’s Championship had many stars, but the most consistant through the five games in six days was catalyst Tylor Perry. The 5’11” SO from Coffee, OK, averaged 16.2 points, 3 rebounds, 3.8 assist, and 1.8 steals in logging just over 32 minutes per contest.
Probably the most amazing stat, was his ball control mastery. Perry only committed five turnovers over the five games. That, for all of you math maniacs is one per outing. His season average was 1.2 per game, so its easy to see his contributions to the teams success.
One miscue (fumble, travel, or bad pass) for every 32.2 minutes of action. That my friends, is how you win Championships.
Tylor stands just under 6’0″ tall. But that doesn’t stop Coach Jay Herkelman from asking him to do much, much, more for the Red Ravens than just facilitate the basketball.
Many times Perry has been asked to guard taller players, and because of his excellent leaping ability, he pulls his fair share of rebounds too.
He was the teams leading scorer throughout the regular season to the clip of 17.6 ppg., Perry was the team’s 5th leading rebounder (2.7 per game), top passer (2.7 per game), tied for team lead with 1.4 steals per contest, and 2nd best assist to turnover ratio at 2.2.
Perry took the award gracefully, and humbly, giving much of the credit to his entire team. When asked about his team’s success shutting down such a high powered offense, Perry replied, “Cowley is a real tough team, they shoot the lights outs as you can see, they are fast paced, but I think we just defended really well tonight.”
In fact, the Red Ravens kept the Tigers below 100 in all three of their head to heads this year.
He, like his coach, felt their effort on the boards was key, “they (Cowley) stay on the boards the whole game, but I felt we rebounded really well tonight and I just think we ended up being the tougher team down the stretch.”
Two of Perry’s teammates received All-Tournament Team recognition, Love Bettis (5’10” FR from Pensacola, FL) and Blaise Keita (6’10” FR from Mali, Africa). Bettis was second leading scorer for the Champs (78 points) behind Perry’s 81. Keita was third with 74 points, netting a career high 27 against Cowley, to go with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.
