Dolphins Put The Gas On To Beat Gaston

The fifth team to reach “ticket punched” status for Hutch 2026 is final. In Region 10/Appalachian District Championship, it’s the #2 seed Brunswick CC, now 28-5, after a 90-76 conquering of #1 Seed Gaston College Rhinos.

Gaston falls to 28-4.

Brunswick Head Coach Walter Shaw (who tallied his 500th career victory earlier this season) and the Dolphins capture the Appalachian title for the second straight season and 3rd since 2021. It will be Brunswicks 4th appearance at Hutch, all under the leadership of Coach Shaw.

Their victory marks the first time since 2017 a Region 10 team has won back to back championships, which includes an automatic berth in the NJCAA National Championship.

Gaston fell behind by as many as 21 points in the second half before mounting a monstrous comeback attempt. The Rhinos cut the deficit to four, 78-74 with just over a minute to play, but come up empty on the next two possessions with a chance to make it a one score game.

Having to foul, and missing shots, Brunswick pulled away from the Rhinos to gain the final 14 point margin.

Now the “Phins” will wait for Selection Monday (not Sunday as in the past) to see their seed and first round opponent at Hutch.
