#2 Kilgore Needs Strong Second Period To Overtake Angelina

Lufkin, TX – Fresh from their return to the #2 ranking on Monday afternoon, Kilgore found themselves later than day chasing the Roadrunners, down 29-25 at halftime. Ironing out the kinks at half, the Rangers put up 39 to Angelina’s 25, leaving the Roadrunners on the low end of a 64-53 final.

With the win, Kilgore moves to 19-1 overall, and currently residing in first place in the Region 14 standings (9-1) with a one game lead on Lee College (8-2). In the loss, Angelina’s record descends to 9-9, 5-4.

KC’s DeVeon Thomas (averaging 12 ppg) in his first start, blasted the ‘Runners with game high 23 points, going 8-14 from the field (3-6 on 3’s) and four of six on FTs. Thomas’ efforts included 4 rebs and 2 assists. Mason Taylor followed Thomas with ten points.

Dantwan Grimes, the Rangers leading scorer at 14.8 ppg, was held to nine, only the 4th time in 20 games he’s been stopped below double digits. Strangely, in all four of those contests, Dantwan ended just one point shy of the ten point barrier.

Grimes and Duane Posey led the team in rebounding, both corralling 6. Grimes had team high 4 helpers.

The lone Roadrunner in double figures was Caleb Johnson who tossed in 18. Game highs for Quandre Bullock with 7 boards and Zachariah Selvage dishing out five assists.

Both teams take the court again on Wednesday. Kilgore is on the road to Panola. Angelina, who saw their 5 game win streak end, goes to Baytown to take on Lee College.
