#11 Seed Triton College With Big Win Over #22 Caldwell Tech
Hutchinson, KS – Triton College of River Grove, IL, appearing for the fist time at Hutch in program history, went big early, grabbing a 20 point halftime lead, 48-28. Brandon Muntu and Patrick Suemnick combined for 22 (twin 11’s) to got the Trojans off to at fast start.
The score was tied twice and one there was one lead change in the first four minutes, from that point forward Triton looked like season veterans on Sam Butterfield Court.
The Trojans biggest lead was 31 at 9:43 mark in the second stanza, then coasted it out for the 88-22 inaugural national tourney victory.
Triton was lead by Suemnick’s 18, Muntu’s 14. Cam Denson came off the bench to support with 13 points and team high 7 rebounds. Muntu offered a game high 7 pass outs.
Triton hit 54% of their shots from the field on 34-63, while Tech was 24-63 for 38%.
Now 28-5, Triton moves on the challenge #6 Seed Indian River State in the second round on Wednesday, March 16 at 8:00 CST.
Caldwell Tech sees their Atlantic District Championship season end at 25-8. The Jets were led by Caleb Mauldin, who went 8-14 on his FG tries for game high 23 points. The only other double digit guy for the Jets was Toyaz Solomon who popped in 17, leading the team in rebounding along the way with game high 9.
